Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Organising Committee we would like to invite you to attend the 11th CELCC taking place at Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 12 to 14 June 2008.

The Central European Lung Cancer Conference is a traditional international meeting that will this time be held in fascinating Slovenia – the country of famous Lipizzaner horses, caves, vineyards at the southern part of Julian Alps. Its geographical position and good traffic connections make Slovenia an excellent bridge between Western and Eastern Europe.

I am sure that the 11th CELCC in Ljubljana will attract your attention with its aims and programme:

• Highlights from ASCO 2008
• Education on lung cancer diagnosis and treatment
• Interactive clinical problem analysis
• Modern approach with new medicines
• Discussion on guidelines

The conference will primarily emphasise interdisciplinary clinical problems, guideline updates for different clinical entities and applications of recent trial results based on the latest information from ASCO 2008. Two weeks later, ASCO 2008 highlights on lung cancer will take place in Ljubljana with speakers, participants of ASCO 2008, who will summarise the essential information from this important meeting for us.

This is not intended to be a “grand slam” conference, but rather a local-regional meeting of some three hundred pulmonologists, pathologists, medical oncologists, radiotherapists, radiologists, and thoracic surgeons who will present their perspectives, ideas, results and solutions of their research. In our opinion, large conferences provide one with a tsunami of information and present a real danger of being misinformed. The 11th CELCC in Ljubljana in 2008 will have only one session going on at any given time, and all specialists on lung cancer diagnosis and treatment will be able to get a global view of the problem, keeping in mind that we don’t treat cancer with chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery, but rather treat a patient with cancer.

If you want to express and show your ideas, work and results, come to the conference, as it is here that you will find a big group facing the same problems. Maybe you will find solutions for your problems here as small meetings give us a chance for shorter interpersonal distance and the opportunity to get to know each other better and to cooperate in the future.
